Prostate surgery

If you have a surgery date, start now. Going in with well-conditioned tissue is called prehabilitation, and it also means you already know how to use the device instead of learning during catheter recovery. After surgery, most men resume once the catheter is out and their surgeon has cleared them. The months right after surgery are when blood flow makes the most difference, so this is not something to leave until your follow-up appointment.

Radiation and hormone therapy

Radiation affects tissue gradually rather than all at once, so starting before treatment begins is ideal — and men continue through the radiation course and throughout hormone therapy. Hormone therapy is the situation men most often abandon, because desire disappears and using a device feels pointless. That instinct is understandable and it is backwards. Hormone therapy removes the testosterone that drives your body's own erection cycle, sometimes for one to three years, which is exactly when mechanical blood flow matters most.

Preparing for a penile implant

Published surgical protocols vary, with some beginning a couple of weeks before surgery and others starting two to three months out. The more preparation time, the more length there is to work with on the day. If your surgery is already scheduled, call and we will build the schedule around your date.
